Manini’owali Beach

As a tropical island destination, it’s probably no surprise that the Big Island of Hawaii has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. And with beaches boasting pristine white sand, exotic black sand, and even a unique green-sand beach, the options for beach hopping along this isle are nearly endless. From grueling hikes required to reach the beach to roadside beaches with ample parking, the requirements for reaching your beach of choice are equally as diverse. Situated near Kona are some of the island’s most beautiful beaches that don’t require a ton of effort to reach. Manini Owali Beach in Hawaii is a beautiful white sand beach tucked away in Kua Bay, just a 20-minute drive from downtown Kona. This beach is a must-see for those staying in Kona!

Things to Do at Manini Owali Beach in Hawaii

Manini Owali Beach in the Big Island of Hawaii boasts crystal clear waters, making it a draw for residents and visitors alike. This small beach offers soft white sand backed up against rugged lava rocks. The water here tends to be calmer in summer months and wavier during winter months. It is also prone to wind, so morning visits when the waters are calmer are especially nice. When the water is calm, the rocky outcroppings at either end of the beach are good areas for snorkeling. If you arrive early enough in the morning, you may be lucky enough to spot some dolphins deeper in the bay. When the waves pick up, this is a popular beach for boogie boarding and body boarding, although participants should be aware of areas of shallow reef.

Bring along plenty of food, water, sunscreen, and shade on your outing to Manini’owali Beach. This beach offers little protection from the sun, and it can get particularly hot in the afternoons. With a shade umbrella in hand and plenty of snacks, this beach is a great place to spend the day picnicking, playing in the water, and enjoying the scenic views. If you come later in the evening, this west-facing beach is an ideal spot to catch a memorable Hawaiian sunset.

Restrooms and showers are available at Manini’owali Beach and there is occasionally a food truck parked in the parking lot. Other than this, there are few other amenities or development, which is a large part of its charm! Bring along a picnic, some shade, and beach toys for a day of fun at Manini’owali Beach.
